From July 2023, new regulations came into effect as a result of federal government changes for the cosmetic procedures.
In accordance with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to regulate and uphold safety standards for patients. This is an Australia-wide mandate for the cosmetic surgery industry.
Some key changes:
- All patients seeking cosmetic surgery must obtain a GP referral
- Two consultations are required prior to proceeding with procedure.
- Patients are required to complete a psychological assessment prior to proceeding with procedure.
- Mandatory 7- day cooling-off period following two consultations is required before booking surgery.
- More use of medical terminology, disclaimers etc
These new regulations are put in place to ensure patient safety, expectations, informed consent and education towards cosmetic procedure is of the highest priority.
