What is involved and am I a good candidate?
Earlobe reduction will benefit patients who have large earlobes, this surgery may be carried out in conjunction with otoplasty, also known as ear pinning Brisbane, or as a separate surgery. Otoplasty surgery reshapes part of the cartilage in the ears, allowing them to lie closer to the side of the head.
It is a very personal decision and you should have realistic goals and expectations before undergoing surgery. So if you are unhappy with your ear/s for aesthetic reasons and you are considering surgery, such as ear pinning Brisbane or earlobe reduction, Dr Ali will examine your ears, or your child’s ears, during your initial consultation and discuss how surgery can achieve an improvement and meet your goals and expectations.
What anaesthetic is used and what hospital stay is required?
This procedure is most commonly performed under a local anaesthetic, but can be carried out under general anaesthesia at your request. This procedure is performed in a day surgery setting, using a rapid recovery technique. You will be able to return to the comfort of your own home soon after completion of the surgery.
Will this procedure leave scars?
Dr Ali Hussain undergoes regular training on the most current surgical methods and will choose the incision option that will minimise scarring. Earlobe reduction incisions work well with the natural contours of the ears and should be become barely noticeable in a short time.
What is the recovery period?
The recovery period for earlobe reduction will vary from patient to patient and you could return to work within 3-5 days. Light exercise may be resumed within 4-5 weeks but strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least 6-8 weeks. You will be given post-surgery instructions to follow and if you have any questions, please speak to Dr Ali Hussain or his clinic staff.
What costs are involved?
Cost is always a consideration in elective surgery, but it should not be the only consideration. You have the right to be informed about the costs you can expect, before you have your surgery.
Costs associated with the procedure may include:
- Surgical fees
- Surgical facility costs
- Anaesthesia fees
- Prescriptions for medication
After your initial consultation with Dr Ali, you will receive a written estimate of fees and an information pack to read before your second consultation. The second consultation is free of charge.
We welcome any questions you may have regarding fees.
Please note: Your satisfaction involves more than a fee. When choosing a surgeon for cosmetic facial surgery, remember that factors such as the surgeon’s training, qualifications, experience and your comfort with him/ her are just as important as the final cost of the surgery.
